The biggest crop coming out of Burkino Faso and what it is mostly linked to is Shea Butter, which provides a large proportion of employment especially in rural areas, but the Shea Butter production is seasonal so it only provides work and therefore income for 6 months of the year.

 

This project introduced Sesame as a secondary crop to the Shea as the sowing, harvesting and pressing of this crop fills the other 6 months of the year.

 

Growing both crops gives the community a year round income and employment.
