SOMALIA

Organic Frankincense Oil

Known as desert jewels, the bark of the Frankincense shrub is scoured to create small cuts in the bark, the resin oozes out of cuts in the bark and solidifies into these amber crystals.

The women collecting the resin have to manoeuvre around razer sharp thorns which surround the shrub (you need to be tough to survive in the desert) and deftly collect the resin while making scours in the bark for the next lot to form.

It is an art form which has been perfected over centuries and is passed on from generation to generation, the Frankincense has been used in local traditions and trade for centuries.
